Yesterday reminded me once again that people don’t protest in countries they don’t love and believe in. I saw yesterday an outpouring of love and the still alive conviction that we can do better than what’s happening right now. A still alive rejection of any form of tyranny.

Americans still prefer the imperfections and utter messiness of democratic institutions over the straight line simplicity of dictatorial rule.  

Those of us in the streets are not the most impacted. Not the most vulnerable. We have some measure of confidence in our safety believing we can express our views, go home to our families and go about our lives. We want that for everyone else too.
